Press Tool Designer/Engineer at British MNC (Progressive Precision Stamping Tools)

In three factories in the UK and Malaysia, P&B Metal Components makes high-volume, high-speed and high-tech contact assemblies. We export over 80% of 100 million components annually to clients around the world. At our factory in Tebrau 4, Johor we are expanding our tool design and tool making facilities to become the centre of excellence for the P&B group globally.

Tool Designer

The role:-
Design tools for a range of metal components, including parts with silver contacts automatically assembled
Oversee the manufacture of the tooling to ensure tools are delivered on time and to specification
Ensure that new tools run at the designed speed
Work on projects to increase efficiency of existing tooling
Develop of new customer solutions (prototyping, NPI, new materials etc.)

The person:-
At least 5-8 years work experience in tool room, every year more is value to us
Competent in Solidworks or other CAD programs to design progression tools
Trained as tool maker with tool room experience in high-speed stamping tools
Both, hands-on with in-house manufacturing of tools and subcontracting externally

Certified to the highest standards (e.g. international automotive standard TS16949), some of the many manufacturing technologies we employ are:Welding a pre-formed metal tape incorporating two or more layers of different metals
Riveting, involving very thin materials or for avoiding damage to heat affected zones
Wire welding, feeding silver or silver alloy wire at high speeds (500 ppm)
Tape welding precious metals such as gold where amounts must be precisely controlled
Auto riveting for particularly high volumes at speeds of up to 600 parts per minute (ppm)
Insert moulding, producing entire subassemblies (pressing, contacting and moulding)
